The Next Hundred Years

Following the Concert to celebrate the band's first Centenary the history of the band was recorded in the concert programme.

Should anyone have anything that they wish to be included in the The Next Hundred Years, please contact the SSB Archivist .

The following documents the second hundred years of the Swineshead Silver Band:

1983- 2004

Starting in 1983 Derek Stephens lead the band to a remarkable sequence of brass band competitions. These events always stretch and challenge the band with a resulting improvement in overall playing ability.

The first outing was in 1983 at the City of Leicester Brass Band Festival and under Derek’s leadership this continued until ill health forced him to hand over the baton after 22 years at the helm.

After an inter-regnum Steven Ingham was appointed as MD for the Band.

Work starts on the refurbishment of the Bandroom, with a new WC, improved heating, alarms and extensive remedial work to the floor and walls to remove the damp. Band Secretary Barbara Webster project managed the application for funding, building work, supervised the building works and the internal decoration and upgrade.

2025

A series of open days was held in the newly refurbished Bandroom to allow those involved and the curious the opportunity to see what has been done and to listen to the Band playing.

Junior Band re-instated with MD Steve Ingham coaching new players.
